LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Sunday ordered removal of security barriers outside the residences of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
During hearing of clean drinking water case, the three judge-bench of SC headed by Justice Nisar, while also consisting of Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, ordered removal of barriers from various parts of the provincial capital, including residences of the Sharif brothers.
Shahbaz, who was present in the court on occasion, was asked if the SC’s decision to remove security barriers outside his house in Model Town was acceptable, to which Punjab CM responded in affirmative.
Responding to a statement of additional home secretary that the barriers were placed pertaining threats to Punjab CM and PML-N leader Nawaz’s life, CJP said that “I have threats too, you should alert your forces”.
Shahbaz also informed the apex court about various water and power development projects across Punjab.
On Saturday, the SC had summoned Punjab CM after a provincial government report revealed that 540 million gallons of untreated water was being disposed of in Ravi River.
